Metro Studies

In 2019, on the day that the first Articles of Impeachment were filed against Donald Trump, I had my camera with me as I headed to work on the DC Metro. I took two photos that I later published. One of which was an out-of-focus shot of Union Station’s inbound platform.

I didn’t think much about that photo until a year later when it occurred to me to shoot a whole series where blur, paired with the Metro’s iconic brutalist architecture, might result in a unique perspective.

What you see here are the results of 4 photo sessions—punctuated by 3 encounters with Metro police officers who attempted to throw me out for conducting ‘illegal photography’. (Photography in the DC Metro is not illegal…BTW.)

This project also contains one shot which may be the finest introspective photo I’ve ever taken.

Photos from December 2019 through April 2022 shot with my Lumix DC-G9 and DC-GX9 cameras.
